John 1:1 The Beginning

Everything has to have a start, and yes I'm going to restart this blog after many years of letting lay fallow.  I'm going to try to at least on a personal level wrestle with the words of God intellectually in order to make those words real and more meaningful.   I never second guess providence, and I'm starting in a path of new things, and with these new things I plan to slow down and start writing a bit more.   For the last two years at our church we've been listening to sermons from the Gospel of John, an amazing rich book of hope for Christians, but also a path for many others that leads to Christ.   I do hope that as you read this blog, I can help simply point you back to the scripture.   Please don't take my personal words as "gospel" they are not,  they are just the musings of a follower of Christ,  I do hope to point you to the true Christ, and my hope for you is that the Holy Spirit will work in your heart to kindle a relati...

Leviticus 1-3

Offerings Required of the Lord Leviticus 1:1-17 There are three sections to this chapter all dealing with offering burnt offerings to the Lord.  It is commanded that these offerings be a sacrifice that is pleasing based upon the ability of the person provide the offering.  Three classes of people: Rich heard owners, middle class flock owners, and the poor whom a pigeon would be a fine meal. The offering represents a sacrifice, giving up what is sustenance and the ability to provide for ones self and family, to be burned and consumed by fire.  God is asking for us to give up, so we would see the cost of our sins, this giving up or turning is the act of repentance.  It's not the action of repentance that has meaning though, it's the motivation of the heart.  For a rich man to give a pigeon or a dove would be no offering, but to give the best of his herd is costly.  Another observation is that the offerings here are a result of mans ability to work, husbandr...

To live is Christ, to die is Gain = Win Win

Today I'm starting my new reading in Philippians, and with that I've decided to blog my thoughts each day as a live journal.  The verses I focused on where Philippians 1:18b-26. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, 19 for I know that through your prayers and God’s provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance. [ d ] 20 I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; 24 but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. 25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progr...

Starting at the begining

As a personal goal, I plan to read through the Bible in 3 and a quarter years, documenting my readings each day here on this blog.   Starting tomorrow at Genesis 1.   Since there are 1189 Chapters in the Bible, I hope to finish this process of study in 3 years and 4 months.   This journal will be my connection to what I read and hopefully be useful by someone when also reading through the Bible.

New Study- Galations 1:1-24

Gal 1:1 Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;) Gal 1:2 And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia: Gal 1:3 Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, Gal 1:4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: Gal 1:5 To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Gal 1:6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Gal 1:7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. Gal 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. Gal 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accur...

Proverbs 1:8-19

Proverbs 1:8-19 (NIV) Warning Against Enticement 8 Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching. 9 They will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck. 10 My son, if sinners entice you, do not give in to them. 11 If they say, "Come along with us; let's lie in wait for someone's blood, let's waylay some harmless soul; 12 let's swallow them alive, like the grave, and whole, like those who go down to the pit; 13 we will get all sorts of valuable things and fill our houses with plunder; 14 throw in your lot with us, and we will share a common purse"- 15 my son, do not go along with them, do not set foot on their paths; 16 for their feet rush into sin, they are swift to shed blood. 17 How useless to spread a net in full view of all the birds! 18 These men lie in wait for their own blood; they waylay only themselves! 19 Such is the end of all who go after ill-gotten gain;it ...

Proverbs 1:1-7

Passage: Proverbs 1:1-7 (King James Version) 1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel; 2 To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; 3 To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity; 4 To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. 5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: 6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings. 7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Observation: What does this passage say about God? The Fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. Who is this book written by? King Solomon gathered and collected knowledge, and was the wisest man of the world. He put this collection of sayings and wisdom together in one single collection. Who is this book written to? Often the phrase ...
